This armoire is a 17th-century Italian piece with a simple, robust form typical of domestic furniture from the period. It is constructed from solid timber and designed primarily for practical use.
The front is composed of two framed doors with vertical panelling and original iron hinges and fittings. The surface shows an aged patina consistent with its age and use.
Armoires of this type were functional household furniture, and relatively few survive today in complete and unrestored condition. This example remains a clear and honest representation of Italian vernacular furniture from the 17th century.
