It is easy to get lost in a landscape; It is simple to ask yourself what goes past the horizon; however it is almost impossible not to forget yourself in all that leads up to it.
In his debut exhibition in the UK, self-taught Spanish artist EMECA presents a selection of abstract works which play with solid form, colour and light. Inspired by moments, places and memories in day-to-day life, EMECA's strong compositional forms evoke a feeling of looking into the distance and losing yourself in the magic of that moment. There is a romance in the colours, the ambiance, and the feeling found in EMECA's work.
Each painting is a labour of love - opposing colours are carefully composed and planned with meticulous detail through digital drawings to premeditate the outcome of each work. Planning is an essential step in EMECA's process, allowing him to create impactful and deliberate work which is still balanced and calm. Once composed in his studio, the artist often brings his canvases, before being stretched, to Galicia - to landscapes that resound with his artistic vision - to see how the colours and forms interact with the horizons, shift in the light and play with the wind. This search for equilibrium between nature and his work perfectly sumarises EMECA's artistic output - an appreciation of balance and a joy in losing yourself inside of the horizon.
