EMECA Spain, b. 1976
MECA (b.1976, Madrid) is known for his large-scale paintings that explore the emotional and spatial possibilities of colour. His work is grounded in a precise, structured process that begins with digital studies—carefully constructed compositions in which contrasts of tone, form and intensity are tested and refined before brush ever meets canvas.
Despite their clarity and formal discipline, EMECA’s paintings are far from static. Inspired by the shifting textures of everyday life and the quiet power of the natural world, his works often echo the sensation of flying over land—expanses of colour that resemble fields, coastlines or abstracted topographies, held together by a delicate visual rhythm.
Integral to his practice is the act of taking the work out of the studio. Before they are stretched, his painted canvases are often brought to the coastal landscapes of Galicia, where he observes how the colours shift in changing light and how the surfaces respond to the breeze. These gestures—simple, almost meditative—serve as a reminder that his work is not only about composition, but about a dialogue with the world around him.
EMECA’s paintings offer a quiet kind of drama: vivid yet contemplative, precise yet open. They suggest a space in which balance can be found not through symmetry, but through sensitivity—a sense of stillness within motion, and clarity within complexity.
